Solar Power for Your Home: 3 Reasons Its Easier Than Ever
You are a conscientious resident of this earth. You must be if you are reading this right now.
It used to be expensive to live with the ecological principles many of us share, especially when it came to solar. Luckily, times are changing, and solar is now more accessible than ever.
1) Tax Credit
When it comes to residential and commercial solar, you'll want to take advantage of the Solar Investment Tax Credit, or ITC. From 2006 through the end of 2019 homeowners who installed solar panels have received a 30% tax credit. So, if you paid $20,000 for a solar install, that's $6000 less you had to pay in taxes, not including each month's utility bill savings.
If you have been thinking of going solar, the time is now. In 2020 the tax incentive dropped to 26%. It will drop again to 22% in 2021, only to plummet to ZERO % in 2022. For commercial building owners and investment properties, this incentive will stay at 10%.
2) Storage
Storage has been the great race of solar engineering over the past few years. Our grid is fragile, and solar energy without a means for storage will save you money, but will not power your home during outages. Energy storage and solar power complement each other, and many people would like independence. Tech giants like Tesla and LG are leading the way in compact, affordable solar storage, and every year there are more and more options. The ITC also covers solar storage.
